february 7:
Referendum on women's suffrage in Switzerland (1971)

Swiss women had no political rights until 1971. After various unsuccessful referendums to this effect, on February 7, 1971, the electorate, which at the time still consisted exclusively of men, decided to introduce women's voting and electoral rights, thus granting the female population full civil rights. The proportion of votes in favor was 65.7 percent. However, it took another 20 years before it was introduced in all cantons - on November 27, 1990, the Federal Court ruled in favour of a corresponding lawsuit from the canton of Appenzell Innerhoden. On November 27, I will /prompt the corresponding picture, I am curious to see whether and if so, in what way the process of AI image generation will then be simplified! .
‍
Civil and economic equality in Switzerland only came about in 1988. before that, married women were not allowed to work, make major purchases or decide where to live without their husband's consent.

By way of comparison, in Germany (or the German Reich), which does not practice the form of direct democracy that Switzerland does, women's suffrage was introduced as early as 1918.
